How Much Does a Grey Hair Transition Colour Service Cost?
This is by far the most frequently asked question I receive—and for good reason. Transitioning to your natural grey can feel like a big decision, and it’s natural to want a clear idea of what kind of investment it involves.
While I absolutely understand why this question is asked, it’s not one that comes with a straightforward, one-size-fits-all answer.
But don’t worry—my intention in this blog is to give you the clarity you’re looking for while guiding your expectations in an honest and thoughtful way.
Why There's No Standard Price
I’ve helped many women successfully step away from permanent hair dye and embrace their natural colour with confidence and elegance. And here’s what I’ve learned: no two transitions are ever the same.
Each person’s hair has its own unique combination of colour history, texture, porosity, and overall health. On top of that, everyone has their own personal style goals, comfort zones, and feelings about how they want to show up in the world.
Because of this, no two colour transition plans will be identical—and the level of time, care, and customisation required will vary accordingly.
That’s why rather than giving you a standard price, I offer a much more valuable alternative: clarity, transparency, and an approach tailored to you.
A Personalised Plan That Fits You
In my book LOVE YOUR HAIR, I talk openly about cost, comfort, and planning—offering practical tools to help you consider what feels right for you and what you're truly hoping to achieve. If you're looking for a thoughtful, grounded way to better understand where you sit on the scale of budget and service quality, I highly recommend giving it a read.→ Tap here to explore the book.
How We Navigate the Process Together
My approach is extremely personalised—because your hair is deeply personal. I don’t believe in promising results that can’t be guaranteed, or offering packages without a real understanding of your hair’s history and needs.
Instead, I begin with a consultation that’s designed to help you understand where you’re at now, what’s possible, and the different directions we can take to get you where you want to be.
At the end of that consultation, I provide a written summary of our discussion along with a quote that reflects the direction(s) we’ve explored. Even if you decide not to book your transition with me, you’ll walk away with a clear understanding of your hair, the options available to you, and the knowledge to move forward with confidence—wherever that may be.
You can then use that information as a reference for your own reflection—or take it with you to have informed conversations with other stylists as you explore your next steps.

What Influences the Investment?
To give you a better idea of what influences the cost of a transition, here are a few common approaches. Each of these involves different levels of service, time, and complexity:
A Fresh Haircut Design Approximate time: 45–60 minutes.
My freehand cutting technique is often all it takes to create a clean and confident transition—no colour necessary.
Haircut + Colour-Balancing Toner Approximate time: 2–3 hours.
A simple but powerful combo that can offer a subtle yet striking blend.
Toners Combined with Permanent Colour Blending Approximate time: 3–4 hours.
A slower, more gradual approach for those who want to ease into the transition while maintaining softness and dimension.
3-Step Colour Transition (Spaced Over 3 Visits) Approximate time: 5-8 hours.
This option unfolds over a series of three visits, spaced about 6–8 weeks apart. It’s ideal when the hair’s history or your personal goals call for a detailed and structured approach. Each visit involves longer appointment times due to the high level of detail and strategic colour placement required. This method gradually builds a seamless and refined blend—designed to help you reach your goal in the shortest and most effective way.
Enhancing and Personalising Natural White Hair Approximate time: 4-7 hours.
A slower-paced and artistic approach, typically refined over one or more visits. This method creates a gentle blend and a fresh focus by enhancing or amplifying select areas with subtle accents and soft shifts in tone.

These are not packages to pick from—they’re examples of the variety of ways a colour transition can be approached. In your consultation, we’ll explore what suits your hair best. You may discover you have more options than you imagined—or you may appreciate the clarity of a more streamlined plan. Either way, you’ll be fully informed, and your choices will reflect what feels right for you.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve been wondering how much a grey hair transition might cost, I hope this post has offered clarity—not just around investment, but around the value of a personalised plan that aligns with you.
There are many roads to embracing your natural colour—and the right one is the one that honours your hair, your goals, and your peace of mind.
